These are exactly the places where a static discharge can destroy a component or disrupt sensitive equipment. We install ESD and antistatic floors for them.

Research and precision electronics labs

Labs working on semiconductors, sensors, optics or aerospace electronics usually have strict ESD requirements, and the floor is only one part of a controlled environment. Floors in these labs typically need to:

  • be static dissipative within a specified resistance range
  • stay clean and low-particle, often as part of a cleanroom
  • be smooth and flat for equipment and trolleys
  • be documented, with resistance test records

We usually recommend an ESD self levelling epoxy or PU system for these rooms, coved at the walls where cleanroom cleaning is required.

IT server rooms and network centres

Server rooms in the IT park and in office buildings usually sit on raised access floors. The access floor panels often have their own antistatic finish, but the sub-floor slab is frequently left as bare concrete. That bare slab sheds dust into the cooling airflow. Sealing it with an antistatic coating deals with both dust and static in the plenum. UPS and battery rooms can take a full ESD floor.

Hospital operation theatres

Many hospital specifications in India still require antistatic or conductive floors in operation theatres, even though modern anaesthetic gases are far less flammable than older ones. Sensitive monitoring equipment in OTs and ICUs also benefits from static control. For hospitals, we combine the antistatic floor with coved skirting and a surface that holds up to repeated disinfection.

How we install ESD floors

  1. Survey. We confirm the required resistance range and check the slab.
  2. Preparation. The slab is ground, repaired and levelled.
  3. Copper grid. Copper tape is laid and connected to earthing points.
  4. Conductive primer. It is applied across the whole area.
  5. ESD finish. The epoxy or PU finish is laid, usually self levelling.
  6. Earthing. Your electrician connects the earthing points to building earth.
  7. Testing. We measure resistance at points across the room and hand over the readings.

Common mistakes we see

No earthing. A beautiful ESD floor that was never connected to earth does nothing. Always check.

Waxing and polishing. Cleaning staff apply polish to make the floor shine, creating an insulating film. Tell your housekeeping team not to.

No footwear control. An ESD floor only works if people wear ESD footwear or heel grounders.

Rubber mats and furniture pads. Ordinary rubber insulates. Use ESD-safe mats and grounded chair castors where needed.

What's the difference between antistatic and ESD flooring?

People use the words loosely. In practice, "ESD flooring" usually means a floor built and tested to a specific resistance range for protecting electronics. "Antistatic" often describes floors that simply limit charge build-up. We work to the resistance range you specify.

Can you work in a hospital OT without closing the whole theatre complex?
