Epoxy cementitious flooring is a three-component system made from epoxy resin, a hardener and a cement-based powder. It is trowelled or spread onto concrete, usually 2 to 6 mm thick, and cures into a dense, hard, grey surface. Its big advantage is moisture tolerance. Because it contains cement as well as epoxy, it bonds to concrete that is too damp or too young for ordinary epoxy and PU floors. That makes it a problem-solver in many buildings.

Two ways it's used

As a finished floor. In plant rooms, stores, basements, service areas and moderately wet areas, the grey, matt, hard-wearing surface is often all that's needed. It handles washing, moderate spills and trolleys.

As a moisture barrier. On damp or new slabs, it goes down first as a base, and once cured, an epoxy, PU or self levelling finish is applied on top. This lets resin floors go down safely where they would otherwise blister.

Where it isn't enough

  • Steam and boiling water: use PU concrete
  • Strong acids and solvents: use chemical resistant flooring
  • Glossy decorative finishes: it needs a resin topcoat for that
  • Running water through the slab: fix the leak first, since no floor holds back flowing water

Installation

  1. Survey: moisture and strength tests, and a check for active leaks
  2. Preparation: shot blasting or grinding, crack and joint repair, pre-filling deep hollows
  3. Application: mixed and laid to thickness, with falls to drains in wet areas
  4. Curing: as specified, with temperature taken into account
  5. Topcoat: epoxy, PU or self levelling finish, if required

Why moisture matters so much

Most resin floor failures in north India are caused by damp slabs. Long monsoons, high groundwater, basements and fast-track construction all leave moisture in concrete. Testing moisture before choosing a system, and using epoxy cementitious where readings are high, prevents most of these failures.

FAQs

Can epoxy cementitious be laid on a new slab?

Many systems can go on younger concrete than pure resin floors, within the manufacturer's limits. We test the slab and check the product data.

Does it come in colours?

Colour options are limited, mostly grey. A resin topcoat can add colour.

Will it stop our epoxy floor from blistering again?

In most cases, yes, when used as a base under the new topcoat on a slab where moisture is the cause.

Is it suitable for kitchens?

For prep areas and wash-up with moderate heat, yes. Cooking lines with steam and boiling water need PU concrete.
