The city's pickle and food units handle vinegar, brine and oils. Dairies clean their lines with concentrated caustic and acid. And like everywhere else, larger buildings have battery rooms. These are the areas where concrete floors and tiles break down fastest, and where a chemical resistant floor pays for itself.
Wool dyeing is often done in acidic baths with dyes, acetic or formic acid and sometimes sulphuric acid, at high temperatures. Cotton and synthetic processing uses alkalis and bleaching chemicals. The floor around dyeing machines and in drain channels takes hot, chemical-laden liquor all day.

Falls to channels are important. Liquor that stands on the floor does far more damage than liquor that drains away.
Acetic acid in vinegar and pickles, salt brine and mustard oil attack concrete over time. In processing areas, PU concrete usually handles this well. In vinegar storage or concentrate handling areas, a stronger chemical resistant lining with a bund may be needed.
Dairy processing floors handle diluted cleaning solutions. The CIP room itself, where concentrated caustic soda and nitric or phosphoric acid are stored and mixed, needs a dedicated chemical resistant lining with bunded chemical tanks.
Hotels, hospitals, banks and factories with UPS or forklift batteries need acid resistant floors in their battery rooms, with coved edges and a bund to hold any leak.
Chemical resistant resins need warmth to cure fully. In December and January, Amritsar's cold slabs can leave a lining under-cured, and an under-cured lining won't resist chemicals as it should. We check slab temperature, enclose and heat the area if necessary and extend curing time before the area goes back into use.
Most dyeing and processing floors we survey are already damaged. Concrete soaked with dye liquor and chemicals is broken out, neutralised and rebuilt before lining. Channel edges are reconstructed. This preparation takes time, but it is what stops the new lining from failing from underneath.
