Every pharma plant in Baddi has a few areas where ordinary GMP flooring isn't enough: solvent and acid stores, chemical weighing and charging areas, QC labs, and the effluent treatment plant behind the main building. These areas see strong acids, alkalis, organic solvents and corrosive effluent. They need floors chosen for those chemicals, and in some cases the floor also has to meet cleanroom and safety requirements.

Solvent and chemical stores

Pharma stores hold methanol, acetone, isopropanol, dichloromethane, acids and alkalis, often in drums. Two things matter most in these rooms. First, a spill must be contained, so the room is bunded and the floor slopes to a sump. Second, the floor must resist the specific solvents stored. Some chlorinated solvents attack many standard epoxy systems, so the chemical list is essential.

Where flammable solvents are handled, the floor may also need to be antistatic. We coordinate with your EHS team on that requirement.

API and chemical processing areas

Plants making active ingredients or intermediates handle reactions, filtration and drying with aggressive chemicals. Floors around reactors, filters and centrifuges get spills of acids, bases and solvents, often warm. Novolac epoxy or vinyl ester linings, coved up plinths and walls and sloped to lined drains, are the typical approach. Each area is specified against its own chemical list.

QC and microbiology labs

Labs need a floor that is both chemical resistant and cleanroom friendly: jointless, coved and easy to disinfect. A chemical resistant epoxy self levelling floor suits most labs, with stronger lining under fume hoods, acid storage cabinets and wash sinks.

Effluent treatment plants

Pharma effluent varies widely in acidity, solvent content and treatment chemicals. ETP floors, channels and pits corrode quickly. Linings are selected after reviewing typical effluent characteristics.

Battery and utility rooms

UPS battery rooms need acid resistant floors, and utility areas with chemical dosing for boilers or water treatment need protection around dosing tanks.

Our approach for pharma sites

  1. Chemical review. We go through chemicals, concentrations, temperatures and exposure type with your engineering and EHS teams.
  2. Patch testing. We recommend testing samples for unusual solvents or mixtures.
  3. Preparation. Contaminated concrete is removed and neutralised, and moisture is tested. Baddi's monsoon leaves many slabs damp.
  4. Installation. Primer, lining or screed, coves and bunds.
  5. Documentation. We provide material data sheets and batch details for your records.
  6. Curing. Each area is handed back only after full cure.

Shutdown timing

Most of these areas can only be closed during planned shutdowns. We sequence rooms so the most critical, such as solvent stores and ETP channels, are done first, and so the chemical resistant areas tie in neatly with the adjoining GMP floors.

Will a standard epoxy floor handle dichloromethane?

Often not. Chlorinated solvents attack many standard epoxies. A specially selected system and patch testing are recommended.

Can a solvent store floor also be antistatic?

Yes. Chemical resistant antistatic systems are available where your safety assessment requires them.
