Most of Lucknow's chemical floor problems are not in heavy industry. They are in the city's many research and hospital labs, in the battery rooms that keep data centres and hospitals running, in water and sewage treatment rooms, and in chemical stores at distributors and institutions. These spaces handle smaller quantities than a factory, but the chemicals can be just as aggressive, and the floors are often ordinary tiles or basic coatings that were never meant for them.

Research and hospital labs

Labs use acids, alkalis, solvents and stains. Most spills are small, but they happen daily, and over time they etch tiles, dissolve grout and soak into concrete. For labs, we usually recommend:

  • a chemical resistant epoxy self levelling floor across the lab, jointless and coved at walls
  • a stronger lining under fume hoods, acid cabinets and sinks, where exposure is highest
  • light colours so spills and stains are easy to see

In pathology and microbiology labs, the floor also needs to be easy to disinfect, which a jointless resin floor makes simple.

Battery rooms

Data centres, hospitals, telecom sites and large offices in Lucknow have battery rooms with lead-acid or VRLA batteries. Leaking acid damages concrete and tiles and can corrode steel racks. A novolac epoxy lining coved at the walls, with a low bund at the door, contains any leak. Battery rooms may also need antistatic properties and good ventilation, which we check with your facility team.

Water and sewage treatment rooms

Treatment plants in hospitals, housing societies, hotels and factories use chlorine compounds, acids for pH correction and coagulants. Sewage also produces hydrogen sulphide, which attacks concrete from above. Floors, channels and sumps in these rooms benefit from a chemical resistant lining chosen for the specific treatment chemicals.

Chemical stores

Pharma and chemical distributors in Lucknow store acids, solvents and reagents. Stores should have lined, bunded floors that slope to a sump, so a dropped drum doesn't spread across the warehouse or into drains.

How we select the system

We ask for your chemical list, concentrations and the kind of exposure, whether it is occasional splashes, spills cleaned within minutes or standing liquid. Temperature matters too. Then we choose between chemical resistant epoxy, novolac epoxy, vinyl ester or PU based systems. For unusual chemicals, we suggest a patch test first.

Working in occupied buildings

Labs, hospitals and data centres usually can't shut down. We work room by room, protect nearby equipment, use low-odour materials where possible and agree access and timing with the facility team. Each area is handed back only after the lining has cured enough to resist chemicals.

FAQs

Our lab has a tiled floor with damaged grout. Can it be converted?

Yes. Tiles are usually removed, the base is repaired and a chemical resistant self levelling floor is laid with coves at the walls.

Does a battery room really need a special floor?

If batteries can leak acid, yes. A lined, coved and bunded floor contains leaks and protects the building.

How long before a lab can use chemicals again?

Usually about a week after installation, depending on the system and temperature.
