Chemical resistant flooring in Ludhiana, Punjab

Ludhiana's metal industries run on acids. Bicycle parts and hand tools are electroplated, steel wire is pickled in acid before drawing, and fasteners go through zinc and chrome finishing lines. Every one of these processes drips, splashes and fumes onto the floor. Start with the chemical list, not the product

There is no single "chemical resistant" floor that handles everything. Before we suggest anything, we ask for:

• the exact chemicals, such as sulphuric, hydrochloric, nitric or chromic acid, caustic soda, cyanide baths or degreasers
• their concentrations
• their temperature, since hot acid is far more aggressive than cold
• how long they stay on the floor, whether that's a splash wiped within minutes or constant pooling
• the cleaning chemicals you use

With that information we can choose between systems. Without it, any recommendation is guesswork.

Systems we use in Ludhiana's metal units

Standard epoxy floor paint is not on that list. It is often sold as "acid proof", and in a plating shop it usually fails within months.

Detailing matters as much as the material

In plating and pickling areas, floors rarely fail in open areas. They fail at:

• tank plinths, where acid runs down the sides
• drain channels and sumps, where acid collects
• joints and cracks, where acid gets under the lining
• walls, where splashes hit the plaster

So the floor is designed as a sealed containment. It slopes to a chemical resistant channel or sump, is coved up the walls and plinths, and has any necessary movement joints sealed with a chemical resistant sealant. Bund walls around tanks get the same lining.

Preparing floors that are already damaged

Most Ludhiana units call us after the damage is done. Acid-soaked concrete has to be removed until we reach sound, clean material, and it must be neutralised and dried before any lining goes on. Otherwise acid left in the concrete keeps attacking from underneath. This is slow, dirty work, and it is where cheap jobs cut corners.

Winter curing

Resin linings need warmth to reach full chemical resistance. In Ludhiana's winter we heat and enclose the area where needed. Tanks shouldn't go back into use until the lining has fully cured, which usually means several days. We give you the date in writing.

Can you line the floor without removing our plating tanks?

Sometimes, by working around tank legs and plinths. The best result comes when tanks are lifted or moved, because the floor under and around them can be lined continuously.

How long does a chemical resistant floor last in a plating shop?

With the right system and good detailing, many years. The biggest factors are choosing the system for your actual chemicals and cleaning up large spills promptly.

Can you test a sample against our chemicals first?

Yes. For unusual chemicals or mixtures, we recommend a patch test before the full installation.
