Electronics manufacturing isn't all clean assembly. Behind the SMT lines, some plants in Noida and Greater Noida run PCB fabrication, plating, cleaning and etching processes that use acids, alkalis and metal salts. Almost every larger plant also has a chemical store, a battery room and an effluent treatment plant. These areas need floors that resist chemicals while fitting into a modern, often audited facility.

PCB and electronics process areas

PCB fabrication and related processes can involve:

  • etchants such as ferric chloride, cupric chloride or ammoniacal solutions
  • acid cleaners, and copper, tin and gold plating baths
  • alkaline developers and strippers
  • solvents for cleaning

These attack concrete and many ordinary coatings in different ways. Some are acidic, some alkaline and some oxidising, and a line often has all three. We look at each process zone and usually specify a novolac epoxy or vinyl ester lining around wet process equipment, with falls to lined drains. Walls are coved and lined to splash height.

Many of these rooms are also controlled environments, so the lining has to be smooth, low-particle and easy to clean. Antistatic properties may be required too.

Chemical stores

Stores holding acids, solvents and process chemicals should have floors that:

  1. resist the stored chemicals
  2. slope to a sump or are bunded, so a spill stays in the room
  3. separate incompatible chemicals, such as acids and alkalis, with divided bunds where needed

Effluent treatment plants

ETPs treating electronics and plating effluent handle acidic and alkaline streams, heavy metals and treatment chemicals. Concrete floors, channels and pits corrode quickly. A chemical resistant lining protects the structure and helps keep contaminated water where it belongs.

Battery rooms

UPS battery rooms and forklift charging areas need acid resistant, coved floors with a low bund.

New plants: plan the floor early

In Noida many of these areas are in new buildings, which is the best time to get them right. We suggest:

  • setting floor falls and drain positions in the civil design, not after equipment is placed
  • forming bunds and plinths in concrete before lining them
  • lining before process equipment is installed
  • allowing full cure time in the project schedule before chemicals arrive

Retrofitting a lining around installed equipment is possible, but it costs more and has more weak points.

FAQs

Can a chemical resistant lining also be antistatic?

Yes. Chemical resistant antistatic systems are available where process safety or ESD requirements call for them.

Which is better for etching areas, novolac epoxy or vinyl ester?

It depends on the etchant and temperature. Oxidising chemicals often favour vinyl ester. We check your chemical list against resistance data before recommending.

Can you work to a new plant's construction schedule?

Yes. We coordinate with the civil contractor on falls, bunds and plinths, and schedule the lining before equipment installation.
