Many auto component and engineering suppliers in SIDCUL Sitarganj, Rudrapur and Pantnagar paint their parts, and painting starts with chemical pretreatment. Degreasing, acid pickling, phosphating and passivation tanks all drip and splash onto the floor. Add forklift battery charging rooms and the effluent treatment plant every unit has to run, and there is a lot of concrete exposed to chemicals it can't handle.

Pretreatment and phosphating lines

A typical pretreatment line runs parts through several tanks:

StageCommon chemicalsEffect on bare concrete
DegreasingHot alkaline cleanersSoftens and erodes the surface
Pickling or derustingHydrochloric, sulphuric or phosphoric acidDissolves cement quickly
PhosphatingAcidic zinc or iron phosphate bathsSteady acid attack
RinsingWater carrying acid and alkaliKeeps the floor wet and corrosive

Because the line alternates between alkaline and acidic stages, the floor needs a system that resists both. Novolac epoxy is common for these areas, with vinyl ester used where chemicals or temperatures are more aggressive. The floor slopes to a lined channel, and tank plinths and walls are coved and lined.

Paint shops

Paint booths and mixing rooms see solvents, thinners and paint spills. A chemical resistant epoxy floor handles these, and colour-coded walkways help with safety. Where solvent vapour is a fire risk, the floor may also need antistatic properties. We check this with your safety team.

Battery charging rooms

Forklift battery rooms deal with sulphuric acid spills and fumes. The floor needs a novolac epoxy lining, coved at the walls, sloped away from charging racks and ideally contained with a low bund.

Effluent treatment plants

ETP floors, channels and pits carry acidic and alkaline effluent, heavy metals and treatment chemicals. Concrete here corrodes from both the liquid and the gases above it. Chemical resistant linings protect the structure and make cleaning easier.

Terai conditions

Damp slabs. Sitarganj's high water table can leave ground slabs damp. Moisture under a chemical resistant lining causes blistering, which lets chemicals reach the concrete. We test moisture and use a suitable primer or barrier.

Existing contamination. Floors in running pretreatment areas are soaked with chemicals. Contaminated concrete is removed and neutralised before relining.

Planning the job

Pretreatment lines usually can't stop for long, and Sitarganj is a distance from our Roorkee base. We plan around both:

  1. You share the chemical list, tank layout and photos.
  2. One site visit covers testing, measurements and confirmation of the system.
  3. We schedule the work for a planned shutdown and bring all materials in one mobilisation.
  4. Each area is handed back after full curing.

FAQs

Can the floor handle both acid and alkaline stages on the same line?

Yes, if the system is selected for both. Novolac epoxy generally handles the mix of chemicals in pretreatment lines. We confirm against your chemical list.

How long does a pretreatment line floor take?

It depends on the size and the damage, but plan for several days of work plus curing before chemicals are reintroduced.

Do you also line ETP tanks?

We line floors, channels, sumps and accessible tank walls. Large tank linings are assessed separately.
