Sonipat's industrial areas at Kundli, Rai and Barhi have food plants, chemical and pharma units, and large warehouses. The chemical exposure in these buildings is concentrated in a few rooms: CIP and cleaning chemical rooms in food plants, process areas in chemical units, effluent treatment plants and battery charging bays. Those rooms usually get the same floor as the rest of the building, and they fail first.

CIP and cleaning chemical rooms

Food and beverage plants clean their lines with concentrated caustic soda, nitric or phosphoric acid, and sanitisers, usually delivered and stored as concentrates. The CIP room is where these are diluted, heated and pumped. Spills here are concentrated, and often hot.

PU concrete handles the diluted cleaning solutions in processing areas well. In the CIP room itself, where concentrates are handled, we usually recommend a stronger chemical resistant lining, often novolac epoxy, with bunds around chemical tanks and a slope to a lined sump.

Chemical and pharma units

Units in Kundli and Barhi making chemicals, coatings, adhesives or pharma intermediates handle a wide range of acids, alkalis and solvents. We specify floors area by area:

AreaTypical exposureUsual approach
Raw material storeDrums of acids, solventsBunded chemical resistant lining
Reactor and mixing areaSpills, heat, solventsNovolac epoxy or vinyl ester screed
Filling and packingOccasional spills, trafficChemical resistant epoxy
QC labSmall daily spillsChemical resistant self levelling

Effluent treatment plants

ETP floors and channels carry acidic, alkaline and oily effluent. Concrete corrodes from the liquid and from gases like hydrogen sulphide. A chemical resistant lining on floors, channels and sumps protects the structure and makes maintenance easier.

Battery charging bays

Warehouses along the highway run large fleets of electric forklifts. Charging bays need acid resistant floors with coving and a bund to contain sulphuric acid spills. They also need good ventilation.

Preparing floors in running plants

Chemical-soaked concrete must be removed and neutralised before a new lining is laid. We also test slab moisture, because damp slabs cause blistering. Then we:

  • rebuild the base and correct falls
  • form bunds and coves
  • apply primer and the chemical resistant lining or screed
  • allow a full cure before chemicals are used again

FAQs

Is PU concrete enough for a CIP room?

For areas with diluted cleaning solutions, often yes. Where concentrated acids and caustic are stored and handled, a stronger chemical resistant lining is safer.

Can you line a chemical store without emptying it completely?

We can work in sections if drums can be moved within the store. Each section needs to cure fully before drums return.

What information should we send before a visit?

Your chemical list with concentrations, photos of the areas, rough sizes and details of any heat or traffic.
