A common story in Ghaziabad's engineering plants goes like this. A factory lays a new epoxy floor, it looks great for six months, and then fine cracks appear around the presses and chips open up along forklift routes. The epoxy itself wasn't bad. It was simply too rigid for a floor that shakes and takes impact all day. EPU flooring, an epoxy-polyurethane hybrid, was made for exactly this kind of floor.

Why epoxy cracks near machines

Presses, power hammers, compressors and heavy CNC machines send vibration into the slab. The concrete flexes very slightly with each stroke. Epoxy is hard and brittle by comparison. Over thousands of cycles, it cracks at points of stress, usually around machine bases and along existing hairline cracks in the concrete.

The polyurethane part of an EPU hybrid gives the floor some flexibility. It moves a little with the slab instead of fighting it, so it lasts longer in vibrating areas while keeping most of epoxy's hardness and chemical resistance.

Impact and dropped parts

In fabrication and assembly shops in Sahibabad and along Meerut Road, parts, fixtures and tools get dropped constantly. Hard epoxy chips at the point of impact, and the chip edges then lift under trolley wheels. EPU absorbs more impact energy before it damages, so chips are smaller and less frequent.

Crack repair before coating

No coating fixes an actively moving crack. Before laying EPU, we:

  2. fill stable cracks with epoxy
  3. treat moving cracks and isolation joints with flexible fillers
  4. regrout loose machine base plates where needed

This preparation is what lets the EPU floor last.

Installation

The slab is ground or shot blasted, oil-soaked patches are cut out, cracks and joints are repaired, and primer is applied. The EPU body coat goes on at a thickness suited to the traffic, typically in the 1 to 3 mm range, followed by a topcoat with anti-slip texture in walkways and line marking for safety zones.

Keeping the plant running

We phase work around production lines and shutdowns. Areas return to foot traffic in about a day, and to forklifts after the specified cure time.

FAQs

Will EPU stop cracks around our presses completely?

It resists cracking much better than epoxy. If the concrete below is cracking badly, that needs attention too, since no coating can hold a breaking slab together.

Is EPU resistant to cutting oil and coolant?

It handles typical machine shop oils and coolants well. Constantly pooled oil should still be managed with drip trays.

How does the cost compare with epoxy?

EPU usually costs somewhat more than standard epoxy. In vibrating and high-impact areas, it often works out cheaper over time because it needs fewer repairs.
