PU concrete flooring in Chandigarh

Chandigarh and its neighbours have a large hospitality trade: brewpubs, hotels, banquet halls, big restaurant kitchens and hospital canteens, plus food units in Mohali and Panchkula. Behind the dining rooms, these places have floors that take hot water, grease, spilled beer and constant scrubbing. PU concrete is the flooring system that holds up in those back-of-house areas.

Brewpubs and microbreweries

A brewery floor is harsher than most people expect. Wort is boiled, tanks are cleaned with hot caustic solutions and sometimes acid, and spilled beer is mildly acidic and full of sugar. Grain and yeast residue gets into every gap. On top of that, the floor has to look presentable, because many brewpubs have glass walls onto the brewhouse.

PU concrete handles hot caustic cleaning and acidic spills, and it can take the heat from brewing equipment and hot hoses. We lay it to falls towards channel drains, cove it around tank plinths and add enough texture to keep staff from slipping on wet floors.

For the visible brewhouse, a UV-stable topcoat helps keep the colour even under strong lighting.

Hotel, banquet and hospital kitchens

Large kitchens in the tricity see:

• boiling water and stock poured into drains
• hot oil splashes around fryers
• heavy steel trolleys and racks
• degreasers and sanitisers every night

These conditions destroy tile grout and crack epoxy. PU concrete, usually at 6 mm and 9 mm where there's steam cleaning, handles them and stays hygienic. Hospital kitchens also benefit from the coved, jointless surface during infection control inspections.

Food units in Mohali and Panchkula

Food businesses such as dairies, bakeries, sweet makers and ready meal producers in the industrial areas of Mohali and Panchkula use PU concrete in processing and wash areas. Dry packing rooms can often use a thinner PU floor coating to save cost.

Keeping disruption low

A restaurant or hotel kitchen can rarely close for long. PU concrete cures fast, which helps. On many jobs we:

1. break out old tiles and prepare the base after service on day one
2. set drains, cut anchor grooves and form coves
3. lay the PU concrete overnight
4. allow light traffic within about a day and full use soon after

Things we insist on

Anchor grooves at every drain, door and edge. Floors almost always fail at their edges first.

Proper falls. Water should run to drains without being pushed there. If the base is flat, we screed falls before laying the PU.

Winter precautions. Chandigarh winters slow resin curing. In December and January we check slab temperature and warm the area if needed.

FAQs

Can PU concrete be laid in a brewpub while the restaurant stays open?

Often yes, if the brewhouse can be closed off. The work is noisy during breakout, so we schedule that part outside service hours.

Does PU concrete smell during installation?

There is some odour during laying, but much less than solvent-based coatings. Good ventilation for a day usually clears it.

Is it expensive compared with kitchen tiles?

It costs more upfront than good tiles. It usually works out cheaper over time because you don't keep regrouting and replacing cracked tiles.
