PU concrete flooring in Delhi

If a floor in your building gets hot oil, boiling water or steam on it every day, tiles and ordinary epoxy will not last. Grout washes out, tiles crack from the heat and epoxy lifts at the drains. PU concrete (polyurethane cement) is built for these conditions. In Delhi we mostly lay it in hotel and central kitchens, catering units, cloud kitchens and food processing plants in Narela, Bawana and Okhla.

What PU concrete actually is

It is a trowel-applied mix of polyurethane resin, cement and graded aggregates, laid much thicker than a coating. The two thicknesses you'll hear about are:

• 6 mm for areas with hot water, regular wet cleaning and trolleys
• 9 mm for steam cleaning, very hot spills and heavy impact, such as tilting kettles, fryers and meat processing lines

It bonds strongly to concrete, handles temperature shock without cracking and has a textured, anti-slip surface. It is much tougher than a roller-applied PU floor coating.

Commercial and central kitchens

Delhi's big kitchens are hard on floors. Think of a hotel banquet kitchen or a central kitchen that feeds a chain of restaurants or an institution. Staff pour boiling stock water into drains, drag steel racks, drop pans and hose everything down at night.

What we focus on in these kitchens:

• Falls to drains. Water must run away, not pool. We lay the PU concrete to slope towards the gullies and channel drains.
• Anchor grooves. At every drain, door threshold and edge, we cut a groove into the slab so the PU concrete locks in. Edges are where cheap installations lift first.
• Coves at walls and plinths. Coved skirting stops dirty water sitting in corners and makes deep cleaning easier.
• Anti-slip texture. Kitchens stay wet and greasy. The texture is chosen so it grips but can still be scrubbed clean.

Food and meat processing units

Processing units in Narela and Bawana deal with blood, fat, brine, sugar and hot water washdowns. PU concrete resists the organic acids and fats in these, and it doesn't soften when hot water hits it. For plants being inspected for food safety, the jointless surface and coved walls help with hygiene audits.

Night work and fixed deadlines

Most Delhi kitchens can't stop for a week. PU concrete helps here because it cures quickly. In many cases light foot traffic is possible within about 12 to 24 hours, and full service within a couple of days, depending on temperature. We often break the old floor out and prepare the base on one night, lay on the next, and hand back the kitchen shortly after. We will confirm the real timeline after seeing your site.

One thing to know about colour

PU concrete is a working floor. Most systems are not UV stable, so colours can fade or yellow slightly in areas with sunlight. This is cosmetic and doesn't affect performance. If appearance matters, we can add a UV-stable topcoat or suggest a colour that shows the change less.

FAQs

Should a hotel kitchen in Delhi use 6 mm or 9 mm?

If the kitchen uses steam cleaning, tilting kettles or pours boiling water on the floor, choose 9 mm. For kitchens with hot water cleaning but no steam, 6 mm is usually enough.

Can PU concrete be laid over old kitchen tiles?

No. Tiles have to be removed and the base repaired so the PU concrete bonds to sound concrete.

Do you replace drains as part of the job?

We can work with your plumber to install new stainless steel drains before laying the floor. It is the right time to do it, since drains are the most common failure point.
