Lucknow is known for its food, and a lot of it is cooked in large kitchens and processing plants. There are dairy plants supplying the city, meat processing and export units along the Lucknow–Kanpur belt through Unnao, and big hospital, hotel and banquet kitchens in the city itself. These floors deal with hot water, fat, milk, blood and daily sanitising. PU concrete is the flooring that keeps them hygienic and intact.

Dairy plants

Lactic acid from spilled milk, curd and whey slowly dissolves cement and etches many epoxy coatings. Add hot water, steam cleaning and caustic CIP chemicals, and a dairy floor gets a very hard time. PU concrete resists lactic acid and handles hot washdowns without cracking.

We typically lay:

  • 9 mm in processing halls, CIP areas and anywhere with steam
  • 6 mm in chilling rooms, packing areas and corridors
  • coved skirting throughout, so milk residue can't collect in corners

Meat processing units

Plants along the Unnao belt face blood, fat, brine, bone fragments, heavy bins and near-boiling washdown water. Food safety audits for export also demand jointless, easily sanitised floors. PU concrete at 9 mm is the usual specification for these areas. The textured finish keeps workers on their feet on wet, greasy floors.

Hospital and hotel kitchens

Lucknow's large hospitals and hotels run kitchens that never stop. Infection control and food safety inspectors look closely at kitchen floors, and cracked tiles or dark grout lines are a common finding. Replacing them with PU concrete gives a jointless floor that meets inspection expectations and lasts much longer.

What a good installation looks like

The material is only half the story. The rest is how it's laid. On every PU concrete job we:

  • remove the old floor down to sound concrete
  • correct slopes so water runs to drains without standing
  • set drains at the right level, working with your plumber
  • cut anchor grooves at drains, doors and edges to stop lifting
  • form coves at walls, plinths and around equipment
  • lay the PU concrete at the right thickness for each zone

If a quote you're comparing doesn't mention anchor grooves and falls, ask about them. They are where cheap jobs cut corners.

Keeping the plant running

PU concrete cures faster than most resin floors. Areas can often take foot traffic within about a day and go back into use soon after. We plan work in zones around production or kitchen service so the facility doesn't have to close completely.

FAQs

Is PU concrete better than epoxy for a dairy floor?

For processing areas, yes. It handles lactic acid, hot water and steam much better. Epoxy can still be fine for dry stores and offices in the same plant.

How do you handle drains in a meat plant?

We recommend stainless steel drains set before the floor is laid, with anchor grooves cut around them. The PU concrete is brought right up to the drain body so there is no gap.

Can a hospital kitchen be done without closing it?

Usually yes, in phases. Cooking moves to one part of the kitchen while we work on the other.
