Food, dairy and beverage plants in SIDCUL Sitarganj, and nearby in Rudrapur and Pantnagar, share a common flooring headache. Their processing and wash areas are wet for most of the day, often with hot water, and the slabs under them sit in the damp Terai ground. Ordinary coatings blister or peel within months. PU concrete is one of the few resin floors that handles both the wet process conditions and the damp slab well.

Why PU concrete suits the Terai

Resin floors fail over damp concrete because moisture rising from below pushes them off the slab. Sitarganj's high water table makes this a real risk, especially on ground-floor wet areas and in plants where the slab was built without a good vapour barrier.

PU concrete tolerates more moisture in the slab than epoxy coatings or self levelling systems, within limits set by the manufacturer. It is also laid thick, 6 to 9 mm, and is more forgiving of small imperfections in the concrete. We still test every slab, but in this region PU concrete is often the most reliable option for wet areas.

Areas we typically lay it in

  • Cooking, blanching and frying sections in food plants
  • Milk processing, curd and paneer rooms, and CIP areas in dairies
  • Filling and bottling halls in beverage units
  • Crate, tray and equipment wash rooms
  • Drain channels and around equipment plinths

Dry stores and packing halls usually don't need it. A PU floor coating is often enough there and costs less.

Getting water off the floor

Many older plants have floors laid flat, with water pushed to drains by squeegee. That wastes time and leaves wet patches that become hygiene problems. When we lay PU concrete, we correct the falls so water runs to the drains on its own. Drains are set at the right height with anchor grooves cut around them, and coves are formed at walls and plinths.

Planning a job from Roorkee

Sitarganj is further from our base than most of our sites, so we plan to avoid wasted visits:

  1. Send photos, a short video and a rough layout on WhatsApp for an initial view.
  2. We make one site visit for slab testing, drain checks and measurement.
  3. Materials and equipment arrive together.
  4. The team works continuously until handover, zone by zone if production must continue.

PU concrete's quick cure helps keep that work period short.

FAQs

Our processing hall floor is always damp. Can PU concrete go down?

Often yes, because PU concrete tolerates more moisture than other resin floors. We test the slab to confirm. Active seepage or standing water under the slab has to be dealt with first.

How long will the plant be disrupted?

A medium-sized wet area typically takes several days, including breakout and curing. We can work in zones so part of the plant keeps running.

Can you also coat the dry areas at the same time?

Yes. Combining wet-area PU concrete with coatings in dry areas in one mobilisation is usually the most economical approach.
