The wet areas in these plants need a floor that handles hot water, oil, sugar and daily sanitising without cracking or harbouring bacteria. PU concrete is the standard choice for them.

Which areas of a food plant need it

A typical plant in Kundli doesn't need PU concrete everywhere. We usually recommend it for:

  • Processing and cooking areas with fryers, kettles and ovens, where hot oil and water reach the floor
  • Wash areas for crates, trays and utensils
  • Dairy processing and CIP zones, which get lactic acid, hot water and caustic cleaners
  • Chillers and freezer entrances, where temperature changes are sharpest
  • Drain channels and around plinths, which are where floors fail first

Dry packing halls, stores and corridors can often use a cheaper PU floor coating or PU self levelling floor. Mixing systems keeps the cost down without weakening the areas that matter.

Bakery and snack lines

Bakeries have a floor problem that's easy to miss. Flour mixed with water turns into a paste that cleaners scrape at hard, and sugar spills around ovens caramelise and stick. Oil from fryers soaks into anything porous. PU concrete gives a textured surface that grips even when greasy but can still be scrubbed properly. It also handles the heat near ovens and fryers, which softens ordinary coatings.

Getting the slope right

In food plants, most floor complaints we hear are really about water that doesn't drain. If the slab under the old floor was laid flat, water pools, and pools become a hygiene issue. Before laying PU concrete, we check the existing falls and correct them with a screed if needed. Drains are set at the right level, and we cut anchor grooves around them so the floor edges are locked in.

New buildings and young slabs

Many Kundli plants are new, and owners often want to start production soon after the building is finished. Some PU concrete systems can be laid on concrete that is younger and damper than epoxy would tolerate, within the manufacturer's limits. This can save weeks. We test the slab and tell you honestly whether it is ready.

FAQs

What thickness should a biscuit plant use near the ovens?

6 mm is usually fine near ovens where the floor gets heat and spills but no steam cleaning. Use 9 mm in areas with steam or boiling water.

Can we use PU concrete in a cold store?

Yes, including at freezer doors. For chambers running well below zero, the slab needs proper insulation and underfloor heating first to prevent frost heave.

Will the floor look glossy?

No. PU concrete has a matt, textured finish designed for grip and cleaning, not shine.
