PU floor coating in Baddi

Baddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh together form one of India's largest pharmaceutical manufacturing clusters, along with a lot of FMCG and packaging plants. In a pharma plant the floor is part of the hygiene system. It has to be jointless, easy to sanitise and free of dust, and it has to hold up in an audit. A polyurethane floor coating meets those needs in many areas of a plant.

Where PU coating fits in a pharma plant

Different rooms in the same plant need different floors, so we plan them room by room.

• Secondary packaging and blister packing halls. PU coating is a good fit. Traffic is moderate, cleaning is frequent and a light colour helps show spills.
• Warehouses, quarantine and dispatch. PU coating handles pallet trucks and keeps dust off stored material.
• Corridors and change rooms. PU coating with coved skirting, so there are no corners for dirt to collect in.
• Wash areas, utility rooms and anywhere with hot water or steam. A thin coat isn't enough here. PU concrete is the better choice.
• Tablet compression and powder handling rooms. Static can be a concern, so consider antistatic flooring.

For cleanroom-grade finishes, we often use PU self-levelling flooring, which is thicker and smoother than a roller-applied coat.

The monsoon and damp slabs

Baddi gets heavy rain from July to September, and the ground stays wet for weeks. Ground-floor slabs, especially in new plants built quickly, can hold a lot of moisture. A coating laid over a damp slab will blister, and blisters in a GMP area mean a failed audit and a repair job.

So we test moisture before we quote and again before we start. If the slab is too wet, we either wait, use a moisture-tolerant primer, or lay an epoxy cementitious base. We will tell you which and why.

Working inside a running plant

Most Baddi work is done during planned shutdowns or in phases while production continues. We:

• agree the room sequence with your production and QA teams
• seal off the work area to keep dust out of clean zones
• use low-odour products in occupied buildings
• provide batch details for the materials we use, if your documentation needs them

Our process

Inspection and moisture testing come first. Then the floor is ground or shot blasted, cracks and joints are repaired, and the wall-floor junction is formed into a cove if needed. Primer goes down, followed by the PU coating in one or two layers. We hand over each room with curing times and cleaning guidance in writing.

Is PU coating acceptable for GMP areas in Baddi?

PU coatings are widely used in pharma plants because they are jointless, non-porous and easy to clean. For higher-grade clean areas we usually recommend PU self-levelling flooring. Your QA team should confirm the requirement for each room.

Can you coat during the monsoon?

Yes, if the slab passes the moisture test. Inside a covered building it often does. If it doesn't, we use a moisture-tolerant system or reschedule.
