PU floor coating in Dehradun

Dehradun's biggest flooring problem: moisture

Dehradun gets a lot of rain, and the monsoon is long. Many older buildings, especially ground floors and basements, have slabs that stay damp for much of the year. This is the main reason coatings fail here. Moisture pushes up from below and lifts the coating in blisters or patches.

That's why we don't quote without testing moisture. Depending on the reading, we might:

• go ahead with a normal primer if the slab is dry enough
• use a moisture-tolerant primer on moderately damp slabs
• lay an epoxy cementitious base that acts as a moisture barrier
• tell you to fix the water source first, such as blocked drainage or a leaking tank, because no coating will survive otherwise

Why PU and not only epoxy

Dehradun has cool winters and warm, humid summers. A little flexibility in the coating helps it cope with those temperature changes. PU topcoats also resist yellowing better than standard epoxy, which matters in buildings with large windows or open verandas. On many jobs we use an epoxy base for thickness and a PU topcoat for colour stability and wear.

How the work goes

1. Site visit and moisture test.
2. Grinding or shot blasting to remove weak concrete, old paint and contamination.
3. Crack and joint repair, and coving at wall junctions in hygienic areas.
4. Primer suited to the slab's moisture level.
5. One or two coats of PU in your chosen colour, with anti-slip texture in wet areas.
6. Handover with curing and cleaning instructions.

FAQs

Can you coat a basement floor in Dehradun?

Often yes, but basements are usually the dampest part of a building. We test moisture first. If water is coming through the slab, it needs to be dealt with before coating.

Is it better to do the work before or after the monsoon?

If you can choose, October to March is easier because slabs are drier. Work inside covered buildings can still go ahead during the rains if the moisture test passes.
