PU floor coating in Kanpur

Most floors we get called to look at in Kanpur have the same story. The slab was laid well, the plant ran for a few years, and now the concrete is dusting, stained and hard to wash. A polyurethane (PU) coating seals that surface, takes regular wet cleaning and handles the organic acids and oils that plain concrete soaks up.

Where it works well in Kanpur

Kanpur has a very mixed industrial base, so the right coating depends on what actually lands on the floor.

• Leather units around Jajmau. Finishing, cutting and dispatch areas do well with PU coating. Wet-blue and chrome tanning pits are a different matter. There the chemical load calls for a chemical resistant flooring system, and we will say so at the site visit rather than sell you the wrong thing.
• Food and packaging units in Panki and Dada Nagar. PU handles lactic acid from dairy products, sugar syrups and daily hot-water washdowns better than a standard epoxy coat.
• Warehouses and godowns. For pallet trucks and foot traffic, a PU coat keeps dust down and makes aisle marking easy.

PU coating, PU concrete or epoxy?

People often ask for "PU flooring" when they mean one of three different things. A roller-applied PU coating is thin, usually under a millimetre, and suits areas with moderate traffic and wet cleaning. PU concrete is laid 4 to 9 mm thick and is the one to choose if there is steam cleaning, hot spills or heavy trolleys. Epoxy is harder and cheaper per square foot, but it is more brittle and it yellows near open shutters. We tell you which one fits after seeing the floor.

How we do the job

1. We check the slab first. A moisture reading, a hammer test for hollow patches and a look at old repairs tell us how much preparation is needed.
2. The surface is ground or shot blasted to open the pores. Oil-soaked patches, which are common in Kanpur workshops, are cut out and repaired with epoxy mortar.
3. Cracks and joints are filled, then a primer goes down.
4. The PU coat is applied in one or two layers, with anti-slip aggregate in wet zones if you want it.
5. Light foot traffic can usually start after 24 hours. We give you a written note on when forklifts and chemical cleaning can resume.

Kanpur summers matter here. When the slab is very hot, resin sets faster than it should, so we schedule application for early morning or evening in May and June.

What decides the cost

We don't quote a flat rate per square foot over the phone, because two floors of the same size can differ a lot in price. The main factors are:

• coating thickness and whether you need anti-slip texture
• colour and line marking
• whether the plant has to keep running while we work in sections

FAQs

Can PU coating be done on a tannery floor in Jajmau?

On dry areas like finishing, sorting and dispatch, yes. In pit rooms or where acids and chrome liquors stay on the floor, a PU coat will not last. Those areas need a chemical resistant system, and we will check the chemicals you use before recommending one.

Will the plant need to shut down?

Not always. We can coat one bay at a time and hand it back before moving to the next, so production keeps running in the rest of the unit.

How long does a PU floor coating last?

That depends on traffic and cleaning. In a food packing hall with pallet trucks, a properly prepared PU coat typically goes several years before it needs a fresh topcoat. Poor surface preparation is the most common reason coatings fail early.
