PU floor coating in Lucknow

A lot of Lucknow's newer floor space is not heavy industry. It is distribution warehouses on the city's outskirts, hospital service areas, commercial kitchens and small food units in Chinhat, Talkatora and Amausi. These spaces need a floor that is easy to mop, doesn't shed dust onto stock and still looks decent a few years later. A polyurethane floor coating does that job well.

Why PU instead of plain epoxy

Epoxy is a good coating, and we lay plenty of it. But it has two habits that cause trouble in the kind of buildings Lucknow is putting up now.

First, standard epoxy turns yellow when sunlight falls on it. In a warehouse with rolling shutters that stay open all day, you end up with an amber strip near the doors and the original colour further in. A UV-stable (aliphatic) PU topcoat does not do that.

Second, epoxy is rigid. Floors that see temperature swings, like a kitchen next to a cold room, or a loading bay that bakes in June and cools overnight, can develop hairline cracks in a stiff coating. PU has a bit more give.

If your floor sees neither of those, epoxy may be the cheaper and sensible choice. We will tell you honestly.

Our process on site

We start with the slab, not the coating. Most failures we are asked to fix in older buildings come from coatings laid over weak or damp concrete. We test for moisture, sound the floor for hollow areas and check the strength of the top layer.

Then the floor is ground or shot blasted, cracks are filled and a primer is applied. The PU coat goes on in one or two layers depending on the traffic. In hospitals and running warehouses we work section by section, often at night or on weekends, so the building keeps operating.

After application, the floor is ready for foot traffic in about a day. We tell you in writing when pallet trucks and cleaning chemicals can be used, because rushing this step shortens the life of the coating.

Things to decide before you get a quote

• Do you need an anti-slip finish? Kitchens and wash areas usually do. Dry storage usually doesn't.
• Will you mark aisles, walkways or parking bays? It is cheaper to plan line marking with the coating than to add it later.
• Can the area be closed, or must we phase the work?

FAQs

Is PU floor coating safe for hospital areas in Lucknow?

Yes. Once cured it is non-porous and can be cleaned with the disinfectants hospitals normally use. For operation theatres or rooms with sensitive equipment, ask us about an antistatic version.

Does a PU coating smell during application?

Some solvent-based PU products do. For occupied buildings we can use low-odour or water-based systems and ventilate the area while we work.

Can you coat over our old epoxy floor?

Often, yes, if the old coating is still well bonded. We lightly grind it, repair any loose patches and apply the PU on top. If the old epoxy is peeling, it has to come off first.
