PU self levelling flooring in Amritsar

PU self levelling flooring is a poured polyurethane floor, usually 2 to 4 mm thick. It spreads out into a smooth, glossy or satin surface with no joints, tile lines or grout. In Amritsar most of our enquiries for it come from healthcare: private hospitals, diagnostic centres, dental and eye clinics, and the lab sections of dairy and food plants. These are places where the floor gets disinfected all day and any crack or joint becomes a place for germs to sit.

Why hospitals move away from tiles

Vitrified tiles look clean on day one. The trouble is the grout. After a year of mopping with disinfectant, grout lines darken, crumble and hold dirt that no mop reaches. Trolleys and beds rattle over the joints, and chipped tile edges are hard to repair without breaking the surrounding tiles.

A self levelling PU floor has none of those problems. It is one continuous surface, and we can run it up the wall as a coved skirting so there is no corner between floor and wall either. It is also slightly softer underfoot than tiles or epoxy, which nurses and technicians who stand all shift tend to appreciate. It also cuts down the clatter of trolleys in corridors.

A few things to know before choosing it

It needs a reasonably flat base. The material levels out small dips and trowel marks, but it will not fix a floor that slopes or has big hollows. Those need screeding first, and we check this on the site visit.

It is not ideal where water must run to a drain. Self levelling material flows to the lowest point and settles flat. Wash rooms that need a slope towards drains are better done with a trowel-applied system laid to falls. We often combine both in one building: self levelling in wards and corridors, sloped PU in sluice rooms.

Winter needs planning. Amritsar nights in December and January get cold enough to slow curing. We check slab and air temperature, and keep the area enclosed and warm where needed.

How the job is done

1. Site survey: moisture test, flatness check and a look at existing tiles or stone.
2. Removal of loose tiles or grinding of the existing surface.
3. Crack repair, screeding of low spots and forming of coves at the walls.
4. Primer, then the PU self levelling layer poured and spread to thickness. A spiked roller releases trapped air.
5. An optional matt or satin topcoat to reduce glare and hide fine scratches.

Foot traffic is usually possible after 24 hours. Beds, trolleys and full cleaning can resume after a few days, and we give you the exact timing in writing.

FAQs

Can PU self levelling flooring be laid over existing tiles?

If the tiles are firmly bonded and flat, yes, after grinding and priming. Hollow or loose tiles have to be removed first, or cracks will appear along the tile lines.

Is it suitable for an operation theatre?

Yes, and an antistatic grade is available where the theatre equipment requires static control. Your biomedical engineer should confirm the requirement.

How long does it take to do a hospital floor?

A single ward or lab can often be finished in three to four days including curing. Larger areas are done in phases so the hospital keeps running.
