Most of the demand for PU self levelling flooring in Himachal Pradesh comes from the pharma belt: Baddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh, Parwanoo, Kala Amb and Paonta Sahib. These plants need smooth, jointless, easily cleaned floors in their production and packing areas. We also work in hospitals, hotels and institutions in hill towns, where cold winters and damp buildings bring their own challenges.

Pharma cleanrooms

In a pharma plant, the floor is part of the cleanroom. It has to be free of joints, resistant to cleaning agents and smooth enough to clean completely. It also needs to meet the expectations of auditors. PU self levelling flooring is widely used in:

  • tablet and capsule production rooms
  • primary and secondary packing areas
  • in-process QC and sampling rooms
  • corridors, airlocks and change rooms

Floors are usually coved up the walls so the junction can be cleaned in one pass. Where static is a concern, such as in powder handling, we lay an antistatic grade.

We generally advise against self levelling in wash and utility rooms with drains. Those need a sloped system so water runs off, and PU concrete is the usual choice there.

Hill town buildings

Hospitals, hotels and schools in Shimla, Solan, Dharamshala and other hill towns have different problems:

Cold slabs. Polyurethane cures slowly in the cold. In winter we warm the room and keep it enclosed until the floor has cured.

Damp walls and floors. Buildings cut into hillsides often have water seeping through the uphill wall or up through the slab. We test moisture and treat the source or use a moisture barrier before laying the floor.

Access. Materials and equipment have to be carried up narrow roads and stairs. We plan deliveries in advance so there is no delay on site.

Monsoon planning in the industrial belt

The BBN area and Paonta Sahib get heavy monsoon rains, and new plants are often built on filled ground. Slabs can stay wet for a long time. We test moisture before each phase and adjust the primer or add an epoxy cementitious base layer where necessary. Blistering in a GMP room is expensive to repair, so we don't skip this step.

How we work in running plants

Most pharma work is done during annual shutdowns or in phases. We coordinate with engineering and QA teams on:

  • the room sequence and handover dates
  • sealing work areas from clean zones
  • material documentation for your records
  • cleaning and curing requirements before production restarts

FAQs

Do you work outside Baddi, in Paonta Sahib and Kala Amb?

Yes. We take projects across Himachal's industrial areas and in hill towns, and plan travel so one visit covers the survey and measurements.

What thickness is used in pharma production rooms?

Usually 2 to 3 mm. Rooms with heavier trolleys or equipment may need more. We confirm this after seeing the layout.

Can the floor be laid in winter in the hills?

Yes, with heating and enclosure. It takes a little longer to cure, so the handover date is a day or two later than in summer.
