Epoxy cementitious flooring in Chandigarh

Epoxy cementitious flooring is one of the least glamorous products we lay, and one of the most useful. It is a three-part mix of epoxy resin, hardener and a cement-based filler, trowelled or squeegeed onto concrete at around 2 to 6 mm. It isn't glossy and it comes in few colours, usually grey. What it does well is bond to concrete that is too damp or too young for a normal epoxy or PU floor. In Chandigarh, that makes it the fix for a lot of renovation problems.

The basement and ground-floor problem

Many older buildings in the tricity have basements and ground floors where the slab never really dries. Owners try an epoxy coating, and within months it blisters. Moisture rising through the concrete pushes the coating off.

Epoxy cementitious systems tolerate that moisture much better. Because they are partly cement-based, they allow some vapour to pass and still hold on to the slab. We use them in two ways:

1. As the finished floor in stores, plant rooms, basements and back-of-house areas where a tough grey surface is fine
2. As a moisture barrier under a PU or epoxy topcoat, so you get a coloured, glossy finish without the blistering risk

Kitchens and wet areas on a budget

Restaurant and institutional kitchens in Chandigarh often want something better than tiles but can't justify full PU concrete. An epoxy cementitious floor handles hot water, washing and moderate spills better than tiles or plain epoxy, and costs less than PU concrete. It isn't as tough against boiling liquids, steam or strong chemicals, so for heavy commercial kitchens we would still point you to PU concrete.

Levelling uneven floors

Renovated shops and offices often have floors with dips where old tiles or partitions were removed. Epoxy cementitious mortar fills and levels these areas and can take a self levelling PU or epoxy finish on top. It saves breaking out the old screed.

Its limits

How we apply it

We test moisture and slab strength, grind or shot blast the surface and repair cracks. The epoxy cementitious material is mixed and applied to the planned thickness. If a topcoat is planned, it goes on after the base has cured. In Chandigarh's winter, we keep the area reasonably warm so the material cures properly.

FAQs

Our epoxy floor in the basement keeps blistering. Will this solve it?

Very often, yes. The old coating is removed, and an epoxy cementitious base is laid to handle the moisture, with a new topcoat over it if you want a finished colour.

Can it be laid over tiles?

Tiles usually need to come off. Epoxy cementitious needs a sound, prepared concrete or screed base.
