Industrial plants in Baddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh have a lot of concrete that holds or keeps out water: raw water tanks, fire water tanks, effluent treatment tanks, cooling tower basins, utility pits and basements. The area's heavy monsoon tests every one of them. Leaks waste water, damage equipment in pits and basements, and in the case of effluent tanks can cause environmental problems. Staff housing and office blocks in the same plants add bathroom and wall leaks.

Plant water tanks

Different tanks need different coatings:

TankWhat to considerTypical approach
Raw water storageContinuous immersion, joint leaksCementitious or crystalline waterproofing
Drinking waterMust be safe for potable waterPotable-water certified coating
Fire water tankMust stay full and reliableCementitious or crystalline, joints sealed
Effluent treatment tanksChemicals, pH swings, gasesChemical resistant lining
Cooling tower basinsTreated water, algae, temperature changesResistant coating after thorough repair

Purified water systems in pharma plants usually use stainless steel tanks. The concrete tanks feeding them still need to be sound, clean and leak-free.

Utility pits and basements

Pump pits, lift pits, cable trenches and basements in plants built on filled ground often take in water during the monsoon. Water in these spaces damages pumps, electrical panels and cables. We seal active leaks by injection and apply crystalline waterproofing inside, which works within the concrete against water pressure from outside.

Staff housing and office buildings

Staff quarters and office blocks built alongside plants often have leaking bathrooms and damp external walls. Bathrooms get a membrane under new tiles with a ponding test. External walls get crack repair and an elastomeric coating.

Monsoon planning

The monsoon from July to September is when leaks show up and when outdoor waterproofing is hardest to do. We recommend:

  • surveying during or just after the rains, when leak points are visible
  • scheduling tank work during planned shutdowns
  • doing external wall coatings in the dry season
  • handling internal injection work as needed, since it can often be done in wet weather

Shutdowns and documentation

Plant tanks are usually treated during planned shutdowns so water supply and fire protection aren't compromised. For fire tanks, we coordinate with the plant's safety team so alternative fire water arrangements are in place during the work. We can provide material data sheets for your records.

FAQs

How long does a fire water tank need to be out of service?

Typically about a week, depending on size and damage. Alternative arrangements for fire water should be agreed in advance.

Can a pump pit that floods every monsoon be fixed from inside?

Usually yes, with injection for active leaks and crystalline waterproofing.

Which coating is right for an ETP tank?

A chemical resistant lining selected for your effluent. We review the effluent data before recommending.
