Bathroom and balcony leaks

Leaks from a flat's bathroom or balcony into the flat below are among the most common complaints in societies. Balconies are often overlooked. Rainwater collects on them, and if the slope, drain or waterproofing is poor, it seeps through to the ceiling below.

The fix follows the same principle for both:

1. remove tiles and screed in the leaking area
2. correct the slope towards the drain
3. seal the drain outlet and any pipe penetrations
4. apply a flexible waterproof membrane, taken up the walls and door thresholds
5. run a ponding test
6. screed and retile

Sewage treatment plant tanks

Society STPs are concrete tanks holding sewage. Sewage gives off hydrogen sulphide gas, which forms acid on concrete surfaces above the water line and slowly eats the concrete away. Ordinary waterproof coatings don't survive this. STP tanks need chemical resistant linings that handle both the sewage and the acidic conditions above it. Before coating, corroded concrete and exposed steel must be repaired.

Swimming pools

Society pools that keep losing water may have leaks at the pool shell, pipe entries, lights or skimmers. We check the likely leak points, repair cracks and joints, and apply a pool-grade waterproofing system before tiling or finishing.

Water tanks and basements

Usually because of poor slope, a blocked or badly sealed drain, or failed waterproofing under the tiles. Rainwater collects and seeps through.

Can STP tanks be coated without shutting the plant for long?

Tanks have to be emptied and cleaned. We plan the work with the STP operator, often one tank or chamber at a time.

Will a coating stop our pool losing water?

If the loss is through the shell or joints, a proper repair and waterproofing system will. Leaks in pipework need plumbing repairs.
