Winter is the season to plan carefully for with water-based coatings. Cold air and cold slabs slow evaporation and curing a lot, and damp, foggy weather makes it worse. In December and January we:

1. warm the room before and during application
2. keep air moving with fans
3. apply thinner coats and allow more time between them
4. avoid coating unheated spaces on very cold days

With these precautions, the finish is just as good. It simply takes longer to reach full use.

How it compares with other systems

Preparation

Existing floors in hotels are often tiled, marble or old coatings. Well-bonded tiles and stone can be lightly ground and coated. Loose tiles and failed coatings are removed first. Grout lines are filled so they don't show through the finish.

A night-time corridor job

• After 11 pm: close one corridor section and protect doors
• Preparation: clean, lightly grind and repair
• Priming and coating: with ventilation running
• Morning: reopen with walkway protection if needed, and finish remaining coats the next night

FAQs

Will guests notice the smell?

Odour is low and clears quickly with ventilation. Most guests don't notice.

Can it be applied over marble?

Yes, if the marble is well bonded. It is lightly ground for adhesion first.

Is winter a bad time for this coating?

Not bad, but slower. We warm rooms and allow more drying time.
