Epoxy-PU hybrid floor coating (water-based) in Dehradun

Boarding schools, hostels and hotels in Dehradun often want to refresh floors in corridors, dining halls and rooms without moving people out for days. A water-based floor coating is well suited to that, because it has far less odour than solvent-based products. There is one local factor we always discuss upfront, though: Dehradun's humidity. Humidity and drying: the honest picture

A water-based epoxy-PU hybrid cures as the water in it evaporates and the resin reacts. In dry, mild weather, that happens quickly. In humid weather:

• each coat takes longer to dry before the next can go on
• the floor stays tacky for longer
• if coats are rushed, the finish can be cloudy or soft

So in Dehradun we:

1. check temperature and humidity before and during work
2. use fans and open windows, or the building's ventilation, to move air
3. allow extra time between coats during the monsoon
4. prefer the drier months, October to March, for large areas

On damp ground-floor slabs, we also test slab moisture and use a suitable primer where needed.

Schools use the water-based hybrid in:

• dining halls, with washable, stain-resistant floors
• dormitory floors that need refreshing during holidays

The low odour means work can happen in one wing while another is still in use. For school kitchens with hot water and heavy utensils, PU concrete is the better choice.

Hotels

Hotels in Dehradun and on the way to Mussoorie use it in corridors, back-of-house areas, stores and staff rooms. Work is scheduled for the off-season and done floor by floor so guests aren't disturbed.

Performance limits

The water-based hybrid is a durable coating for foot traffic, furniture and trolleys. For workshops with heavy impact or forklifts, the solvent-free EPU hybrid is stronger. For very smooth clinical areas, a PU self levelling floor is better.

• Clear the area and protect adjacent rooms
• Clean and lightly grind the floor, and repair chips and cracks
• Check moisture and humidity
• Prime
• Apply hybrid WB coats with good airflow
• Hand over with care and cleaning instructions
