In a pharma plant, walls and ceilings are part of the controlled environment. They must be smooth, cleanable, non-shedding and free of gaps where particles and microbes can collect. Auditors check them closely, particularly corners, junctions and every place where a pipe, duct or fitting passes through. In Baddi's pharma plants, we coat walls and ceilings and form coves that join them seamlessly to the floor system.

Coves at every junction

In GMP rooms, coves are usually needed at:

  • floor to wall, joined to the PU self levelling or epoxy floor
  • wall to wall, at internal corners
  • wall to ceiling, where specified

A cove turns a hard corner into a smooth curve that can be wiped in a single pass. Floor-to-wall coves are formed in resin mortar and keyed into both surfaces. Wall-to-wall and wall-to-ceiling coves are formed with suitable coving profiles or resin fillets before coating.

Walls and ceilings

We apply hard, non-shedding epoxy or PU coatings suited to the cleaning agents and disinfectants used in your plant. Ceilings in coated masonry rooms get a compatible coating system. The finish is smooth, light coloured and uniform, so any contamination is easy to see.

Penetrations and fixtures

This is the detail that decides whether a room passes inspection. Every point where something passes through the wall or ceiling needs sealing:

  1. pipes and conduits
  2. switch and socket boxes
  3. pass boxes and view panels
  4. door frames and return air grilles
  5. light fittings and HVAC diffusers

We seal these with compatible sealants so the coated surface is continuous and there are no gaps.

Coated walls or cleanroom panels?

Higher-classification cleanrooms often use modular panels. Many pharma rooms, such as secondary packing, some production areas, corridors, airlocks and QC labs, use coated masonry very successfully. Your cleanroom design specifies which applies. We work on the coated rooms and coordinate with panel installers where the two meet.

Monsoon and condensation

Baddi's long monsoon leaves plaster slow to dry, and HVAC start-up in a new plant can create condensation on cold walls. Coatings on damp plaster blister. We check moisture before coating each room and coordinate with the HVAC team so rooms are stable during application and curing.

Documentation and shutdowns

For validation and change control, we can provide material data sheets and batch details. Work in running plants is planned for shutdowns, with rooms sealed off from clean areas and cleaned before handover.

FAQs

Do all GMP rooms need wall-to-ceiling coves?

Not always. It depends on the room classification and your plant's specification. Floor-to-wall coves are standard in most GMP areas.

Can old painted walls in a pharma plant be coated?

Yes, after old paint and any soft layers are removed back to sound plaster, and moisture is checked.

Do you seal around pass boxes and view panels?

Yes. Sealing all penetrations is part of the job.
