Steam from machines condenses on walls all day, dye splashes stain them permanently, and caustic and acidic chemicals attack paint and plaster. Many walls in these units are black with mould and dye within a year of painting. Dairy and food units face milder but similar problems, and the city's large hospitals need walls that can be disinfected constantly. The right wall coating depends on which of these you are dealing with.
Walls near dyeing machines face:
Standard hygienic wall coatings may not survive this. For these areas we specify chemical resistant epoxy wall coatings, chosen for the chemicals your process uses, at least up to the splash height around machines. At the floor, a cove joined to the PU concrete or chemical resistant floor stops liquor from getting into the wall base.
Ventilation matters too. A coating can resist condensation, but a room that is permanently dripping will still have problems at every joint and fitting. We point this out where it applies.
Milk, food and snack units in Ludhiana need washable, light-coloured walls with coved floor junctions to meet hygiene expectations. Hygienic epoxy or PU coatings handle daily washing and food spills. Bump rails protect walls from trolleys and crates.
Ludhiana's large hospitals use hygienic coatings in OTs, ICUs, labs, dialysis units and corridors. Walls must tolerate disinfectants without breaking down, and coves at the floor and corners make cleaning faster. Low-odour products allow work in operating wards.
Cold Punjab winters make condensation worse, especially in processing houses and kitchens. Coatings applied to wet or cold walls fail. We check wall moisture and temperature, and schedule coating when machines are off and walls have dried, often during planned stoppages.
| Room | Typical system |
|---|---|
| Dyeing and processing | Chemical resistant epoxy wall coating with PU concrete or chemical resistant cove |
| Dairy and food production | Hygienic epoxy or PU coating with cove |
| Hospital clinical areas | Hygienic coating, low odour, coves at floor and corners |
| Offices and stores | Standard washable paint is often enough |
A non-porous coating resists mould far better than paint, but ventilation also needs attention if the room is constantly wet.
The area being coated needs to be dry and free of steam, so machines nearby must be stopped during coating and drying.
At least to the height of splashes and condensation, and often full height.
