Walls in Kanpur's food, confectionery and dairy units get dirtier than most people expect. Sugar dust and syrup splashes stick to paint. Steam and heat soften ordinary emulsions. In summer, fine dust from outside settles on every surface. Hospital and lab walls face a different problem: they are disinfected so often that normal paint breaks down. A hygienic wall coating handles both, and a coved junction at the floor removes the dirtiest corner in the room.

Food and confectionery units

In sweets, confectionery and dairy production areas, walls need to be:

  • smooth, so dust and syrup don't cling
  • non-absorbent, so splashes wipe off completely
  • washable with hot water and food-safe cleaners
  • light coloured, so dirt is visible

Epoxy and PU wall coatings meet these needs. Around cooking kettles and syrup boilers, where walls get hot and wet, we coat at least to the height of splashes and steam, and often full height.

Coves at the floor

The junction between wall and floor is where syrup, milk and water collect, and where cleaning brushes can't reach properly. A cove, a smooth curve typically 50 to 100 mm in radius, joins the wall coating to the floor system. In wet areas it is formed with PU concrete or epoxy mortar, keyed into the floor so it doesn't crack away.

Hospitals and labs

Kanpur's hospitals and diagnostic labs use hygienic coatings in OTs, ICUs, labs and procedure rooms. These rooms need walls that tolerate repeated disinfection without chalking or peeling. Low-odour, water-based products let us work in hospitals with patients nearby.

Heat and dust during work

Kanpur's summer affects wall coating in two ways. Hot, dry walls absorb primer too fast, and airborne dust settles on wet coatings. We work in cooler hours, dampen and prime walls correctly, and close the room while the coating dries.

Preparation checklist

Before any coating goes on, we:

  1. remove old distemper, putty and loose paint back to sound plaster
  2. cut out and repair hollow or crumbling plaster
  3. fill cracks and holes
  4. check walls for moisture, especially the lowest metre where rising damp is common
  5. degrease walls in kitchens and production areas

Skipping these steps is the main reason wall coatings fail.

Protecting the coating

Food units and hospitals move trolleys and carts constantly. Bump rails at trolley height and corner guards at doorways protect the coating from impact. They cost far less than repeatedly repairing chipped walls.

FAQs

Can walls be coated while the unit keeps running?

Usually yes, section by section. Production areas need to be screened off and kept dust-free during coating and drying.

How long does a wall coating last?

With good preparation and impact protection, many years. Damaged areas can be patched and recoated locally.

Is the coating safe for food areas?

Once fully cured, hygienic epoxy and PU wall coatings used in food plants are inert and washable. Confirm any certification needs with your QA team.
