Epoxy-PU hybrid flooring (WB) is the water-based version of our EPU hybrid system. It keeps much of the hybrid's toughness, flexibility and colour stability, but uses water instead of solvents as the carrier. That means far less odour and low VOC content. It is the system we recommend when a floor or wall has to be coated in a building that stays in use, such as an office, hospital, school, hotel or food packing unit.

Why water-based matters

Solvent-based coatings release strong fumes as they cure. In a closed, occupied building, those fumes cause headaches and complaints, and in food or pharma settings they raise concerns about taint and contamination. A water-based hybrid:

  • has much lower odour during and after application
  • releases far fewer VOCs, which helps with green building ratings and indoor air quality
  • allows work to be done overnight or over a weekend, with the space back in use soon after
  • has a longer working time, which helps with careful application

Where it fits

  • Offices and IT buildings: corridors, pantries, support rooms
  • Hospitals and clinics: corridors, waiting areas, stores, near occupied wards
  • Schools, colleges and hostels: classrooms, corridors, dining halls
  • Hotels and restaurants: guest corridors, back-of-house, dining areas
  • Food packing and bakeries: dry areas where solvent odour near product is a concern
  • Walls: washable coatings on corridor, pantry and clinic walls

What to expect from a water-based system

Thinner coats. It builds up in several coats and is a coating system, not a thick screed.

Drying depends on air. Water has to evaporate. Humidity, cold and poor airflow slow it down, so ventilation is part of the job.

Heat speeds it up. In very hot, dry weather it dries fast, so work is done in cooler hours and smaller sections.

Traffic. It handles foot traffic, beds, trolleys and furniture well. For forklifts and heavy impact, the solvent-free EPU hybrid is stronger.

Installation

  1. Survey, including slab moisture and site conditions such as humidity and ventilation
  2. Cleaning, light grinding and repair of the existing surface
  3. Primer
  4. Hybrid WB coats, with fans or building ventilation running
  5. Handover with drying, cleaning and furniture guidance

Rooms are often usable for light traffic the next day, depending on weather.

FAQs

Is a water-based coating completely odour-free?

Not completely, but odour is much lower than solvent-based coatings and clears quickly with ventilation.

Can it be used on walls?

Yes. It gives a washable, low-odour finish on walls in corridors, pantries and clinics.

Does humidity affect it?

Yes. High humidity and cold slow drying, so we plan extra time and ventilation in those conditions.

Can you provide VOC data?

Yes, from the manufacturer's product data, for green building or QA documentation.
