The tricity has a mix of car parks that few other cities its size can match: multi-level parking structures in the city centre, hospital and office basements, and the many high-rise societies in Mohali, Zirakpur and Kharar with podiums and basements. Open decks here deal with hot summers, cold winters and heavy monsoon rain. Enclosed basements deal with dust, oil and poor light. Each needs a different floor system.

Multi-level car parks and open decks

The top deck of a multi-level car park is effectively a roof that cars drive on. It faces:

  • direct sun, which breaks down non-UV-stable coatings and softens them in summer
  • rain, which finds every crack and drips onto the level below
  • temperature swings that open and close cracks and joints
  • tyre scrubbing on turns and ramps

A standard epoxy coating isn't right for these decks. It is rigid, it chalks and yellows in sunlight, and it cracks with the slab. Open decks need a flexible, crack-bridging PU deck coating system with a waterproofing layer, an aggregate-filled wearing layer and a UV-stable topcoat. Expansion joints get their own flexible joint system.

Covered intermediate levels can use a tougher epoxy or PU wearing coat without the full waterproofing build.

Hospital and office basements

Basements need dust control, oil resistance, brightness and clear marking. We typically coat drive aisles and bays, add grip to ramps, paint pedestrian routes and mark bays and directions. For hospitals, ambulance routes and drop-off zones get extra-clear marking.

Societies in Mohali, Zirakpur and Kharar

Many societies in these areas have podium decks with landscaping, driveways or play areas above the basement. When these leak, water drips onto parked cars and damages the basement ceiling and services. The usual cause is cracks in the podium slab and poor detailing around drains, planters and upstands. The fix is a crack-bridging PU deck system with careful detailing, rather than repeated patching.

Winter work

Chandigarh winters slow resin curing, and open decks can be very cold in the morning. For deck coatings, we schedule application during the warmer part of the day, check the surface temperature and dew point, and avoid coating when dew is likely to settle on fresh work. It is better to plan major deck work for October–November or February–March.

Ramps and marking

Ramps get coarse anti-skid aggregate, with extra attention on curved ramps and entry and exit points. Marking can include colour-coded levels, bay numbers, arrows, pedestrian crossings and EV bays.

FAQs

Why can't we use epoxy on the top deck?

Most epoxy coatings are rigid and not UV stable, so they crack with the slab and degrade in sunlight. Open decks need a flexible, UV-stable PU system.

Our podium leaks onto basement cars. Can you fix it without breaking the landscaping?

Hard surfaces and driveways can be treated directly. Leaks under planters and soft landscaping usually need those areas opened for proper waterproofing.

Do you work in Mohali, Zirakpur and Kharar?
