Car park flooring in Kanpur

Kanpur's newer commercial buildings, including malls, hospitals, office blocks and apartment complexes, mostly come with basement or deck parking. The older buildings often have parking squeezed into ground floors and courtyards. Either way, the concrete takes a beating from tyres, oil, dust and one of the hottest summers in north India. Basements

Enclosed basements in Kanpur are shielded from the sun but have their own problems: fine dust from worn concrete, oil stains, dim lighting, damp patches after the monsoon and slippery ramps. A basement car park coating typically includes:

• grinding and repair of the existing concrete
• a moisture-tolerant primer where the slab is damp
• a wear-resistant epoxy or PU coat in bays and aisles
• a heavier textured coat on ramps
• line marking for bays, arrows and walkways

In older buildings, parking areas often have patched concrete, uneven surfaces and poor drainage. Before coating, we repair potholes and uneven patches, correct low spots where water collects and seal cracks. Coating over a broken surface just shows the damage through the new finish.

Scheduling around the heat

Resin coatings are sensitive to temperature during application. On very hot slabs they cure too quickly, trap bubbles and bond poorly. For open areas, we prefer October to March. If summer work can't be avoided, we coat very early in the morning and in the evening.

Keeping parking available

We phase the work by zone or level. Each section is closed, prepared, coated and reopened after the specified cure time, while traffic uses the rest of the car park.

Some coatings soften at high temperatures, and hot tyres pick up or mark them. Choosing a heat-tolerant system for open areas prevents this.

Our basement ramp is dangerous in the rain. What can be done quickly?

An anti-skid ramp coating with coarse aggregate can often be done over a weekend, and a drain at the top of the ramp stops rainwater running down.
