Steep ramps need serious grip

Ramps in hillside buildings are often steep and sometimes curved. In the rain, a smooth concrete or painted ramp becomes dangerous for cars, and even worse for two-wheelers. For these ramps we use:

• a thick coating with coarse aggregate broadcast into it for strong grip
• extra texture on curves and at the top and bottom transitions
• a drain across the top of the ramp to stop rainwater running down it
• bright edge marking and direction arrows

Seepage in hillside basements

Water coming through the uphill wall or up through the slab is the most common basement issue in Dehradun. Coating over it fails, because the coating blisters and peels.

We look for the source first:

1. seepage through walls, which is often treated with injection or crystalline waterproofing
2. water through slab joints and cracks, which is sealed before coating
3. poor drainage outside the building that pushes water against the basement
4. drains and sump pumps that aren't coping

Once the water is under control, we test the slab moisture and use a moisture-tolerant primer if needed before coating.

Hotels

Hotels in Dehradun and on the way to Mussoorie see seasonal peaks. Their car parks need to look presentable and be safe for guests arriving in the rain. We coat basements and porches, add clear marking for guest and valet parking and use texture on ramps and drop-off areas. Work is planned for the off-season.

Hospitals and residential complexes

Hospital car parks need clear ambulance routes, drop-off zones and non-slip surfaces. Residential complexes typically want dust control, bay numbering and safer ramps.

Timing around the weather

Dehradun's long monsoon makes open-area coating difficult from June to September. Winter mornings can be cold and damp, with dew on surfaces. We schedule open work for dry months, check surface temperature and dew point before coating, and use the warmer part of the day in winter.

FAQs

Can a coating stop water coming into our basement?

A floor coating isn't a waterproofing system. Seepage has to be treated at its source first. Then the coating protects the floor.

Our ramp is very steep. Will an anti-skid coating be enough?

For most ramps, a coarse aggregate coating gives good grip. Very steep ramps may also benefit from grooves cut into the concrete, which we assess on site.
