Terrace waterproofing and roof protection in Lucknow

Many of Lucknow's government offices, colleges and older institutional buildings have flat roofs finished with traditional lime concrete terracing. When well maintained, it performs reasonably. After decades of patching with cement, bitumen and whatever was available, many of these roofs leak into offices, record rooms and classrooms every monsoon. Newer apartments and hospitals face more modern problems around tanks, equipment and outlets.

Older roofs with lime terracing

Lime terracing is thick and heavy, and it was designed to shed water with a good slope. Common problems now are:

• cracks and hollow patches where the lime concrete has broken down
• cement patches that don't bond to the lime and trap water beneath them
• lost slope, so water ponds and soaks in
• blocked or broken outlets and downpipes
• vegetation growing in cracks and parapets, with roots opening them further

Our approach depends on the roof's condition. Where the terracing is mostly sound, we remove incompatible patches and vegetation, repair cracks, restore drainage and apply a flexible membrane over it. Where it is badly broken and saturated, it is removed in sections, the slab is dried and inspected, the slope is rebuilt, and a membrane system is applied. Removing heavy terracing also reduces load on old slabs, but that decision should involve the building's engineer.

Government and institutional projects

Public buildings usually need clear documentation before work can be approved. After a roof survey, we provide:
